Chairman & Founder Entrepreneur Graeme Clegg has a healthy outlook on life. Pure and simple: ‘I still believe life is simple. People complicate it too much. Use common sense. Work on the laws of nature because they are all-powerful”, managing director of The New Image Group Graeme Clegg says. In the 1970s Graeme Clegg was breeding Southdown sheep on his stud farm near Masterton. Today he is Managing Director of The New Image Group, a multi-million dollar health supplements business that exports internationally and is growing at an exponential rate. Last year the company won the Agritech, Life Sciences and Biotech exporter of the year award. It has increased sales by 200 percent in the past two years and earned more than $14 million in 2003. The group consists of three companies – New Image Asia, a direct sales company; BioActive, a wholesale product supplier; and Symbiotics., a colostrum-focused biotech company. The group employs 30 staff at its Mangere head office and more than 100,000 people sell its products direct to customers – mainly in Asia. Farmers are generally noted for being a conservative lot and for Mr Clegg to have been sold on health supplements more than 20 years ago is unusual, but it was personal tragedy that set him on the path to business success. ‘I lost my family – my mother and father and younger brother – to cancer, and it made me realize that I was probably genetically programmed to also be a victim of cancer,” he says. ‘So, I wasn’t going to leave it to chance. I didn’t have all of the answers but while trying to save my brother I traveled the world and met a lot of very famous people – including Dr Linus Pauling, who won two Nobel Prizes.” ‘It became clear to me that there are a lot of things you can do to programme how long you live and how healthy you are,” Mr Clegg says. ‘Over 90 percent of cancer can be prevented. The key is eating well and exercising well.” It was on the farm that Mr Clegg’s ideas about health supplements began to develop. ‘I learned my nutrition from the sheep. We gave the sheep cobalt and selenium and I often thought why don’t I give it to myself or my children? I’ve since learned that selenium-deficiency makes you vulnerable to cancer. These things are well known but they are not taught. It’s getting more and more accepted and people are becoming aware that there are alternatives. Drugs are not the whole answer,” Mr Clegg says. The New Image Group was formed to sell nutritional weight-loss and energy products but in recent years it has focused on colostrums – the pre-milk fluid produced by mammalian mothers during the first few days after giving birth. Human colostrums is designed to boost the human gastro-immune system but the New Image Group uses cows’ colostrums which has 10-20 times more immune factors than the human equivalent. Mr Clegg had seen how lambs that had almost frozen to death in a storm could be revived with a dose of colostrums. He also knew that cows, bred to produce milk, produced enough colostrums to feed six calves when they gave birth. If they had only one calf the extra colostrums was fed to pigs or thrown away. Mr Clegg worked with the dairy companies to extract the colostrums, which he mixed with other plant and animal extracts to produce a range of health products. The market for the group’s products seems to be unlimited, but Mr Clegg and his key staff have aggressively pursued international distribution opportunities – they have collectively taken 500 international flights in three years. ‘My challenge was that New Zealand wasn’t big enough to support the volume of manufacture that was required to be economic, so that meant expanding the market,” he says. ‘We’ve become more of an Asian company because they are much more hungry than New Zealanders, more entrepreneurial, which is a sad thing to say because our pioneers of this country showed they were very entrepreneurial.” Mr Clegg sold his farm in the mid 1980s to follow his dream and it took about four years for the new business to build up. Along the way to success he has learned many lessons that he believes are applicable to anyone wanting to get ahead in business. ‘I’ve worked very hard physically and I’ve learned that it’s mental muscle that helps create wealth, not physical muscle. People are not prepared to invest and take time for the tree of wealth to bear fruit,” Mr Clegg says. ‘Everybody wants everything now. They think they deserve it today and they are not prepared to believe in themselves and what they are doing, to give it time to bear fruit.” Despite having almost reached retirement age, Mr Clegg is keen to see the business grow even more. ‘I’ve always thought big. I’ve had lots of knock backs and life’s never gone the way I’ve thought it would but I’ve always retained my optimism. I’ve seen better ways of doing things. As I’ve got older I’ve realized there is no limit to what you can do if you go about it the right way. We’re listed on the stock exchange now and I certainly don’t have any doubts that we have the potential in the not-too-distant future to have a company worth well over $100 million.” At heart, Mr Clegg still sees himself as a simple farmer. “I still believe life is simple. People complicate it too much. Use common sense. Work on the laws of nature because they are all-powerful,” he says. “I’ve had a tough life. It hasn’t been easy and I wish I had known about some of the books and met some of the people that have been mentors, sooner, and understood the principles of success a lot earlier. They don’t teach any of that at school. Nature will never change, and the laws of wealth creation will never change. They are the same today as they were 200 years ago.” “It’s an art form. It’s a skill and a lot of people never really understand what it takes. I don’t know all of the answers yet, but I’ve picked up some of them. ”

Rejection. We have all encountered it at some time or another in our lives. And I think most would agree that it is usually not a very nice feeling. But it is a fact of life. Yet, when it comes to network marketing,

most people take rejection too seriously

and for some reason they do not know

how to deal with it. People seem to think

that rejection is a personal refusal

to accept them as a person.

This is not what your prospects are saying

to you when they reject your business

opportunity. When they say no to to you they are simply saying now is not the right time for them. Nothing more. They are not saying they don't like you. However, people do not handle rejection well and many will take it so personal that they will actually quit their MLM. They think that people are actually telling them "I don't like you!" How easily our feelings are hurt! If you want to build a successful networking business you will have to learn how to accept rejection. In other words, learn how to not let your feelings be hurt by those who say no to you. It has nothing to do with you personally. It has everything to do with the prospect. What the prospect is usually saying is that they are not ready at this particular time. Circumstances do not allow them to get involved but in the future their circumstances may change. If and when that happens they may view things differently. Those who do not learn how to accept rejection usually do not stay in the business long enough to build an organization. Once you can learn how to put aside your personal feelings when it comes to rejection, you will be on your way to building a successful network. The art of accepting rejection is not some secret formula. It is simply learning to accept that everyone is not ready to have their own home based business. Colostrum’s History & Alpha Lipid Lifeline [New Image Asia / International]

Early in the 20th century it was noted that antibody levels in the first milk produced after birth (colostrum) were much higher than were found in the milk produced after 72 hours. It was already known that these antibodies contained certain properties that enhanced protection. Prior to the development of sulphur drugs and antibiotics, colostrum was used for the natural antibiotic properties it contained. A physician, Albert Sabin who is credited with developing the first polio vaccine, was an advocate of colostrum use and had in fact originally isolated the first anti-polio antibodies from bovine colostrum. About forty years later Campbell and Peterson, using an orthodox vaccination protection theory, developed a programme whereby cows were immunized with a mixture of attenuated pathogens before the birth of their calf. The colostrum collected from these animals was referred to as immune or hyperimmunised colostrum. Research which was conducted using the hyper immune milks showed it to be prophylactically and therapeutically successful in preventing and treating pathogens capable of causing infections in the intestinal tract, ranging from E.coli, infant rotavirus, Cryptococcidiosis, diarrhoea in AIDS and other immunodeficient patients, dental care formation and a variety of other conditions. In 1992 Kummer was the first to demonstrate that colostrum from non-immunized cows can prevent gastrointestinal disease in infants. In 1998 McConnell and her colleagues at Otago University, New Zealand, in conjunction with The New Zealand Dairy Group demonstrated that it was possible to produce a colostrum from pasture-fed, non-immunized cows which showed greater antibody volume and activity than that of the hyperimmunised equivalent. The New Zealand Dairy Industry pioneered the first commercial colostrum collection system. Hundreds of dairy farmers with more than 400 cows invested in separate stainless steel tanks and the companies developed the means by which to collect, pasteurize, dry and store colostrum in large quantities. Summary The fatty acid composition of human milk in Slovenia has not been investigated previously. In the present investigation the fatty acid composition of colostrum lipids from 41 Slovenian women recruited the third day post partum in three Slovenian hospitals (Celje, Koper and Ljubljana) was analysed. The coefficient of variation for the measurement of individual fatty acids participating more than 0.1 % was from 2 to 6 %. According to regional areas, there were significant differences (P<0.05) in polyunsaturated fatty acids contents of colostrum lipids both of n-6 [linoleic (C18:2), gamma-linolenic (C18:3)] and n-3 series [alpha-linolenic (C18:3), octadecatetraenoic (C18:4), eicosatrienoic (C20:3) and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6)]. The linoleic acid represented between 12.6 % (Koper) and 17.4 % of total fatty acids (Ljubljana) in colostrum lipids. The alpha-linolenic acid accounted from 0.7 % (Koper) to 1.1 % (Ljubljana) and the average linoleic to alpha-linolenic acid ratio was 16.8. The lowest portion of docosahexaenoic acid in colostrum lipids was in Ljubljana (0.35 %), whereas the highest in Celje (0.49 %, P<0.05). Ayurveda adds to protection from H1N1 – Cow Colostrum !

PUNE: Calling Gau piyush' or cow colostrum a powerful nutritional immunity solution that could help arrest the spread of the H1N1 flu, noted computer scientist Vijay Bhatkar on Wednesday said that the solution should not be considered a cure but a supplement to other medication. Cow colostrum is a thick lemon yellow coloured secretion produced by cows for about 72 hours after the birth of a calf. Addressing a news conference here along with a few medical practitioners in the city, Bhatkar pointed out that this solution, that has its origins in Ayurveda, was now available in capsule form. Bhatkar's recently founded Institute of Integrative Healthcare (IIHc) started research on this solution almost three years ago. "But we started focusing on the H1N1 flu only a few months ago. Our focus was on nutritional immunology inspired by Ayurveda rather than vaccine-based immunology. Different countries have different conditions, so it is vital for each and every country to look for a solution to the illness themselves," said Bhatkar. Stressing the fact that the solution was only meant to be a supplement to the medication for H1N1 and not a replacement, Bhatkar said that it could be taken by both those suffering from H1N1 and those who want to take some kind of preventive measures. The task force formed by the institute to conduct research on the solution include a mix of medical practitioners and Ayurveda practitioners and G T Phanse, the former deputy director of the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). "The colostrum contains about 20 specific antibodies and it also has antibacterial properties," said Ramesh Patil, a member of the task force. The solution has already been tried on 7,000 patients successfully during the course of the research, 20 per cent of them displayed influenza-like symptoms. "We have not been able to obtain the necessary permission to test it on those suffering from the H1N1 flu but we are in talks with various authorities including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) who have promised to get back to us," said Bhatkar. On being asked about the effectiveness of the solution, another task force member, Vinod Marathe, said that it starts taking effect within an hour after it is consumed. "It quickly builds up your immunity system and the effect only gets stronger. The antibodies start functioning immediately," he added.
